„Cleaning of mountain bikes in our bath tubs is not allowed” was one of the sentences we were told upon checking in at our hotel in Moab, Utah. We knew instantly that we’ve come to the right place. This is a mountain bike heaven. Unfortunately, on this trip we only packed our hiking boots and we also did not go out and rent bikes. Instead, this story is about hiking in this area with 3 kids (ages 11, 9 and 5).
I am pre occupied when it comes to Moab I must admit. I was lucky enough to be coming here as a child and a couple of times since then. I’ve grown to love this land. The rich contrast of the land, sky and the rich colors are truly breathtaking. It seems as though the rocks are aglow instead of the sun light being reflected. I couldn’t wait to bring my kids here to give them the same impressions I had as a child. They were awe-struck by the landscape. Why come to Arches with kids? Because there are numerous easy trails one can do with children and kids can participate in the Junior Ranger Park program. They were proud to be sworn in as a Junior Park Rangers by Ranger Vicky at the end of the day upon completing the tasks and questions provided in the booklet. In fact, it was educational for us adults as well. Thank you again Ranger Vicky for giving our kids such an outstanding inspiring experience – you are great! They still talk about it!
Arches is a small National Park but more than one day can easily be spent here. Adding Canyonlands National Park to the agenda one may want to consider a couple of days in Moab.
Gear: Hiking boots, backpack(s), plenty of water (!), snacks, sun protection.
